Stakeholders have converged on Abuja to review documents to guide migrant workers.

The documents; pre-departure orientation training manual and gender mainstreaming strategy were drafted by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in collaboration with the International Labour Organization, ILO.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ms. Kachollon Daju at the stakeholders’ workshop for the validation of the documents on Wednesday in Abuja urged the participants to review the documents to meet international standards.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the validated documents will be subjected to more reviews to produce a near-perfect manual.

Ms. Daju explained that the ministry had been carrying out the pre-departure orientation of migrant workers with the use of the Migrant Resource Centers established in Abuja, Lagos and Edo states.

The Country Director, ILO, Vanessa Phala said the documents were aimed at providing orientation to intending migrants on issues around labour in their destination countries.

She urged the federal government to expedite the approval and launch of the reviewed national migration policy with a view to enhancing migration governance.

The representative of a partner in the project, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Mr. Manuel Muhlebach noted that the initiative was beneficial to the migrants, their countries of origin, transit, and destination.
