Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), are meeting again to try and resolve the over 6-month-old strike in public universities.

The meeting, which is at the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, hopes to address the key demands of the union, which include the adoption of the University Transparency Accountability System (UTAS) and the release of withheld salaries of the striking lecturers, since March 2022.

Other demands include funding for the revitalisation of tertiary institutions and the renegotiation of the 2009 agreements.

The ASUU president, Emmanuel Osodeke, stated on Monday, that if the federal government agrees to the negotiations, the association will sign and the strike will be called off.

Adamu, the Education Minister, is expected to brief the Federal Executive Council on the outcome of the meeting, on Thursday this week.
