The Police Command in Anambra State has recovered a human skull, one locally made rocket-propelled grenade, RPG launcher and  two (RPG) bombs from a criminal den at Amukabia-Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Also recovered were one single-barrel long gun, empty chain of bullet, one Toyota Sienna, one Mercedes Benz Formatic Jeep, two cylinders, a huge quantity of hard drugs and other items, including a police beret and a belt.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, says the recovery followed a counter-offensive operation launched against criminal elements, who had on Friday, laid an ambush on a 6-man police team and a civilian car tracker.

The officers, according to the statement were on a recovery operation of a Toyota Sienna Space Wagon earlier snatched at gun point on 9th of this month in Oye-Agu Abagana.

The statement noted that four of the Police Operatives escaped the ambush, while two of them and the car tracker were captured.

They were later murdered and their bodies set ablaze by the criminals, who were eventually neutralized during the counter offensive operation, which also led to the destruction of three of their camps while some of them escaped with bullet wounds.

According to the statement, the remains of the two murdered police officers and the tracker have been recovered and deposited in a morgue, while police operation is still ongoing in the area to track the fleeing gang members.

The state conveyed condolences of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng who described the incident as a classic example of the risk the police are exposed to in the onerous task of protecting the country.

It also assured residents of ongoing intensified efforts toward total reclamation of all the public spaces occupied by hoodlums in the state, by apprehending and bringing the hoodlums and their accomplices to justice.
