President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for support of traditional rulers in addressing demands of the youth.

The President made the appeal in Abuja, during a meeting with a delegation of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria.

He emphasized the imperative of support of traditional rulers in the administration’s determination to address demands of the country’s youths, which had begun the implementation.

President Buhari noted that the traditional rulers’ proximity to people had placed them in a unique position to communicate and ensure that the administration’s response was targeted and impactful.

Muhammadu Buhari urged them not to compromised neutrality to safeguard their moral authority and legitimacy.

He said his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, would lead senior government officials to various parts of the country and directly engage with traditional rulers as part of the process.

The president thanked the traditional rulers for the role played to calm down youth in their domains with wisdom and authority, and by instilling hope and keeping the peace.

While receiving the recommendations of the traditional rulers, buhari promised to study them and take appropriate action.

He said with Covid-19, Nigeria had found herself in very turbulent times, but that his administration had designed various schemes and taken many measures to soften the impact, despite the country’s revenue struggles, noting however that more needs to be done to soften the situation.

The President said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and its agencies were working on how to assist farmers affected by the recent floods with relief.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar the 3rd, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja the 2nd, who led the delegation, assured President Buhari that they would do their utmost to maintain peace in their domains.

Two foremost traditional rulers representing each geo-political zone attended the meeting.
