Chairman of Kaduna State Universal Education Board, KADSUBEB, Tijani Abdullahi says the sacking of 2, 357 teachers in the state is to achieve quality Education and also promote the activities of the National Union of Teachers, NUT.

The SUBEB Chairman who was responding to questions from newsmen on the government’s position on the matter noted that there are plans to recruit Ten Thousand Teachers to address the huge gap in Teacher, Student ratio.

Abdullahi dismissed claims of a subsisting Court order against the conduct of the competency test arguing that the dismissal of NUT President, Titus Amba and others affected was an indication of how the state government was serious on issues of education.

According to him, the dismissal followed all due processes as queries were issued to the teachers and the sack was approved by the State Executive Council.

The KADSUBEB Chairman maintained that for the past five years,  the government had spent not less than One point Five Billion naira on infrastructural Development and other interventions while One Point Two Billion Naira was spent monthly on Teachers’ salaries.

Teachers in Kaduna State, including its national president, Comrade Audu Titus Amba were sacked by the Kaduna state government for failing a purported competency test.

Addressing the media in Abuja on Wednesday, the deputy president of NUT, Dr Kelvin Nwankwo said its president, Amba did not fail the test as announced by the state government and therefore remains its national president. The Union also said the action of the Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai was clearly to intimidate the NUT President and embarrass the Teachers.

The NEC urged the Kaduna State government to rather embark on a continuous Teacher Training Programme, which would at the end of the day improve knowledge and service delivery by Teachers in the Public Schools of Kaduna State as obtained in other professions such as Nursing, Medicine and Law.
