House of Representatives is to use its veto powers to override President Muhammadu Buhari and passed the amended electoral act currently before him for accent.

The decision followed a point of order by a member from Delta State Mr Rolland Igbakpa, during the house proceeding.

Mr Igbakpa explained that the decision became imperative since the thirty days leeway stipulated by the constitution for the President the accent on the amendment has elapsed.

The lawmaker was concerned that the house had taken its time to recall members from their annual recess on the eleventh of May this year to perform their legislative obligation just for the President to withhold assent on the document.

In another development, the house has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to extend the dateline for the voter’s registration exercise to allow Nigerians to acquire the card.

The resolution was a sequel to a motion by the Chairman House Committee on Media and Publicity Mr Benjamin Kalu, during the sitting adopted by the lawmakers.

In a contribution during the house proceeding, a member from Kano State Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan Rurum described as unfortunate how non-accent to the electoral act allowed money bags to allegedly bribe the few delegates to emerge victorious.

Alhaji Alhassan Rurum, lamented that the parties primaries were married by irregularities occasioned by vote buying in some states of the federation.
