Residents of Rafin Gora in Kontagora local government council of Niger state will soon breath a sign of relief as the ongoing construction of canals around the community have reached completion level.

The project was an intervention between Niger state govẹrnment and the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project NEWMAP a World Bank Assisted Programme meant to curb ecological challenges in communities suffering from annual gully erosion.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello who went on inspection tour to the project site in Kontagora expressed satisfaction with level of work done.

The Governor explained that the communities have been plagued with ecological problem leading to the destruction of many homes.

He however expressed optimism that the project will be completed in the next few weeks and that it will no doubt avert major disaster.
