A Non Governmental Organization, Save The Children says Observing regular hands wash among parents and children reduced the risk of contacting Pneumonia and Covid -19 infection.

Social and behaviour change coordinator, Save the children office in Jigawa state Mr. Ibrahim Haruna stated this while addressing some communities during a field visit to Kiyawa local government area.

He explained that the Organization encourages people to always wash their hands with soap and running water to prevent the spread of corona virus and other diseasei in their communities.

Also speaking, the official in charge of Primary Healthcare at the Local Government, Mallam Musa Nababa Kiyawa said, Save the children intervention had helped in immunization coverage in the area from 67% to 82%.

According to him, save the children has conducted series of training to health workers in the area and engaged hundreds of community volunteers in campaigning against Covid-19, Pneumonia Infection, routine immunization, antenatal, Facility delivery and exclusive breast feeding.

Nababa pointed out that the Organization had also gave them Personal Protective Equipment against Covid-19 worth over seven million naira.

Mrs. Shafa’atu Yawale and some community volunteers who spoke to Radio Nigeria commended Save the children for awareness created on Covid-19 and Pneumonia Infection, as well as Prevention and Control of infectious diseases.
