President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to look into request of Katsina Elders for expansion of existing irrigation scheme at Zobe and Sabke dams to enhance agricultural production.

President Muhammadu Buhari

The President dropped this hint in Abuja while at a meeting with Katsina State Elders Forum.

Muhammadu Buhari described as unacceptable a situation where 60% of farmers rely on rain-fed agriculture for about four months while staying idle for the rest of the year.

He explained that he had asked the Minister of Agriculture to work with states to rediscover lost grazing routes and reserves as a means of ending frequent clashes between farmers and herders.

While describing agriculture as the largest employer of labour in the country, the President said farmers would benefit from government reforms in the sector.
