Jigawa state government has commenced the implementation of Basic health provision fund service at 279 political wards for poor and vulnerable groups.
The state Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Salisu Mu’azu stated this at a briefing to mark the 2021 Pneumonia Day organized by the Save the Children International Jigawa state office in Dutse.
According to him, the state government had provided one primary health center in each political ward and recruitment of midwives as part of efforts to reduce maternal mortality in the state.
Dr. Salisu Mu`azu further explained that, the state government was spending 75 million naira monthly welfare package to the maternal newborn child services.
He said the development partners provided training and donation of equipment to reduce the effect of pneumonia in the state.
In a speech, the chief of party inspiring project, Save the Children Intervention, Dr Adamu Isah commended the state government for adopting a national pneumonia control strategy.
He pointed out that, based on the commitment of the state government, the inspiring project of Save the Children would extend its services to the second phase in due course.
