Federal Government says it has paid N20 billion as COVID-19 allowance to health workers in the country.

Minister of State for Health, Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora made this known on a Nigeria Television Progamme on Wednesday.

According to him, Federal government has been able to disburse close to N20 billion as against the claim that nothing has been done.

Dr Mamora explained that the Government had to stop the payment of hazard allowance to health workers because of renegotiation with them.

He said April and May allowance were paid in full, while part of it was paid June because of the economic situation.

The Minister explained that, the funds were paid to Federal health institutions across the country including Federal Medical Centres FMCs and teaching hospitals among others.

Dr. Mamora said the payment of N5,000 hazard allowance for doctors and health workers which has been in existence for over 30 years was suspended due to Coronavirus pandemic
