The Africa Nations Cup has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and will now hold in January 2022.

Confederation of African football (CAF) took the decision after consultation with stakeholders that deliberated on the current global situation.

CAF confirmed that the date for the final tournament and the remaining matches of the qualifiers would be communicated in due course.

The 33rd edition of the biennial football tournament was scheduled to begin in Cameroon on January 9, 2021 but has been shifted due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

CAF equally confirmed that the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the biennial tournament for home-based footballers would no longer hold this year and has being moved to 2021.

CAF’s president, Ahmad Ahmad  said Cameroon was not replaced as hosts stressing that the Executive Committee has being satisfied with the authorities for their commitment towards  hosting the two competitions.

Meanwhile, the 2020 African Women’s Cup of Nations has also been called off, with CAF inaugurating a new women’s Champions League, which will begin next year.
