The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to embrace love, unity and renewed belief in Nigeria’s future.
Akpabio, in a goodwill message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Eseme Eyiboh, described Nigeria as “our destiny, our duty, our future.”
He congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly and Nigerians at home and abroad, saying the anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the country’s nationhood and enduring promise.
Senate President noted that 66 years after independence, Nigeria’s journey had been marked by both triumphs and trials, adding that Nigerians had continued to strive, create, serve and believe in the country despite challenges.
He honoured the country’s founding fathers and generations of Nigerians whose courage, labour and sacrifice contributed to the nation’s development.
The Senate President said Nigeria’s strength could be found in the contributions of farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs and young people, as well as in the country’s music, enterprise, hospitality and achievements of Nigerians around the world.
He also called for greater unity across ethnic, cultural and religious lines, saying Nigeria’s diversity remained an important part of its national heritage.
Akpabio saluted the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their service to the country, particularly those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
He assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would continue to support efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen the nation and improve the lives of citizens, while urging Nigerians to serve the country with integrity, compassion and devotion.
