The Senior Special Assistant to the Zamfara State Governor on Broadcast Media and Public Affairs, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura has described the campaign promises of the gubernatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa in the state as empty promises.
He was reacting to the recent commencement of political campaigns by Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa and other candidates ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Zamfara State.
Kaura alleged that, Senator Marafa did not present concrete plans for the development of the state during the inauguration of his campaign in Gusau, but rather focused on the distribution of vehicles and other promises to the party supporters.
He also questioned Senator Marafa’s promised to address issue of insecurity within one or two years if elected as Governor of Zamfara State or to resign if the problem persisted beyond two years.
According to the governor’s aide, Senator Marafa has allegedly made a similar promise during the 2023 Zamfara Central Senatorial election, when he contested against Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis.
He said although Senator Marafa was defeated in the election, but he did not quit politics as allegedly promised while Marafa is now contesting the governorship election.
Mustapha Jafaru Kaura also challenged the NDC candidate to identify specific sectors where he believed, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has failed and he should explain how his proposed policies would address the challenges.
The Senior Special Assistant said Governor Dauda Lawal came into office with a six-point Rescue Agenda, which he claimed had guided the administration’s interventions across different sectors.
Mustapha Jafaru Kaura further claimed that, the administration had executed several projects, settled inherited obligations and continued the payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities to state and local government workers.
He also cited the payment of WAEC/ NECO examination fees and other educational obligations, as well as the construction of the Gusau International Airport, among other projects.
He alleged that all local government areas in Zamfara State had benefited from development projects under the current administration.
The governor’s aide said the administration was confident in its record and would remain focused on its development agenda despite the activities of opposition parties.
Mustapha Jafaru Kaura argued that, Governor Dauda Lawal has done Alot in the area security, economy ,education, healthcare and other sectors.
He therefore urged all gubernatorial candidates to go beyond campaign rhetoric by presenting clear and verifiable programmes for the benefit of people.
