Kano State Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, has pledged to support initiatives aimed at strengthening security across Kano State.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Bashir Sunusi, stated this when the State Commandant of the Vigilante Groups, Shehu Rabi’u, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry.

Dr. Sunusi said the Kano State Government attaches great importance to the security of lives and property, stressing the need for all stakeholders to work together to safeguard the citizenry.

He commended the contributions of vigilante groups to security operations across the state, particularly at a time when the government has accorded security matters high priority.

The Permanent Secretary urged members of the vigilante groups to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions in the discharge of their responsibilities for effective grassroots security.

He also advised the State Commandant to formally communicate the challenges confronting the groups to the Ministry for onward submission to the State Government for necessary action.

Earlier, the State Commandant of the Vigilante Groups, Shehu Rabi’u, said the delegation visited the Ministry to congratulate Dr. Bashir Sunusi on his new assignment and brief him on the current situation of vigilante groups across the state.

Shehu described the groups as grassroots security operatives who work round the clock to protect lives and property.

He disclosed that although the State Government had reconstructed the vigilante groups’ office, which is yet to be commissioned, the groups were facing operational challenges due to inadequate working materials.

The Commandant appreciated the Ministry for its support, particularly the provision of more than 2,000 sets of uniforms and flashlights, which he said had enhanced the groups’ operations.

He, however, appealed to the State Government, through the Ministry, to provide operational vehicles and other essential working materials, as well as commission the newly constructed office.

The visit was attended by officials of the Ministry and representatives of the State Vigilante Groups.
