Outgoing President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership in promoting peace, stability and regional integration in West Africa.
Dr. Touray gave the commendation while speaking to State House Correspondents after a farewell meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the current ECOWAS Commission management at the end of August.
He said the reduction in tensions across the sub-region reflects the commitment of President Tinubu and Nigeria to regional peace and cooperation, noting that the President provided strong leadership during his tenure as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The outgoing ECOWAS Commission President also acknowledged the contributions of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government officials in advancing the objectives of the regional bloc.
Dr. Touray described President Tinubu as a pillar of stability in West Africa, adding that his dedication to regional integration and the future of the sub-region had strengthened ECOWAS and inspired confidence among member states.
He said his visit to the Presidential Villa was to express appreciation to the President for the support and guidance he received during his two-year tenure as President of the ECOWAS Commission.
