The Northern Christian Youth Professionals NCYP have expressed commendation over Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani’s choice of a Christian, Mr. Jerry Adams, as his running mate and calls on the good and peace-loving people of Kaduna State to support the decision.

In a statement, the group strongly believes that the Governor did not take the decision for personal gains, but for people of Kaduna State, so as to restore the bond of love, mutual respect, trust, fairness and justice that once existed between the Christians and Muslims in the State.

” The gesture strengthen the relative peace the State has enjoyed under his administration, rebuild trust between Christians and Muslims and ultimately end insecurity. A Kaduna State where all feel a sense of belonging is essential for businesses to flourish, families to live happily and citizens to build a better future,”. the statement reads.

The statement signed by national chairman, Mr. Isaac Abrak and the state coordinator, Mr. Daniel John said the State has endured painful years of religious tension and insecurity stressing that in the past, the State witnessed repeated attacks, killings, kidnappings, abductions, sexual violence and displacement, leaving many families and communities devastated.

“Governor Uba Sani inherited that terrible and difficult situation but as a man of peace that he is, he chose a different path of inclusion, dialogue and reconciliation. His Peace and Reconciliation initiative, which brings Christian and Muslim communities together for dialogue and mutual understanding, is part of this approach.”

The NCYP believed such efforts have contributed to the relative peace Kaduna is enjoying today, and notes that this model of peacebuilding is increasingly being emulated by other states.

It says the Governor’s choice indicates a sincere commitment to inclusion made out of a careful consideration of competent and experienced a public servant who has demonstrated that he can work with people across religious lines.

‘His record speaks for itself. As Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Adams has played a leading role in strengthening the State’s revenue administration. Before his public service career, he also held positions with the Nigerian Bottling Company (Coca-Cola). Those who worked with or served under him can testify to his professionalism, competence and ability to work with people from different backgrounds.”
