Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has described the state multi-story Revenue House project as a strategic intervention to provide a befitting work environment for the State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) and strengthen the state’s drive for improved internally generated revenue (IGR).
Speaking with newsmen after inspecting the facility which is now the tallest building in the state, Governor AbdulRazaq said the Revenue House underscores the critical role of the revenue agency in the growth and sustainability of the state.
“This is the heartbeat of the state – the revenue agency. We have to ensure that they have a good working environment. They are working from different clusters within the state,” .
He explained that beyond providing a permanent and conducive office accommodation for the agency, the project also demonstrates government’s commitment to accountability and efficient public service.
“In addition to what people can see everywhere, this building projects the work they do, the revenue they collect, and people see where their money is going into. Getting them a good working environment to do their job will also encourage them to do their work better and bring in better efficiencies to what they do,” he added.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed satisfaction with the remarkable growth in the state’s internally generated revenue since the inception of his administration.
He attributed the success to the dedication and professionalism of the management and staff .
“I commend the management of KWIRS for the work they’ve been doing. We’ve seen revenue growth. The collection has basically doubled, more than doubled since we took over in 2019,” he said.
The Governor disclosed that the Revenue House has reached the completion stage and is set for commissioning soon.
Responding to questions on the preparedness of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections, Governor AbdulRazaq said the party remained united and fully mobilised ahead of the official commencement of campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The unusual visit to this project (by all our candidates) shows that this is a winning party. We’re bound together, we’re moving together. We’re just waiting for INEC to flag off the campaign officially. But we’re engaging,” he said.
“Yesterday, we had a huge engagement, and all the candidates are working together. All the team members are here, apart from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who leads the team nationally. But from the Governorship, National Assembly, State Assembly, we’re all together, and moving together, ready to commence the campaign.”
Earlier, Governor AbdulRazaq and members of his entourage received a detailed briefing from the Executive Chairman of KWIRS, Mrs. Folashade Omoniyi, who conducted them on an inspection tour of the soon-to-be commissioned facility.END
