The Kano State House of Assembly says it will intensify efforts through quality legislation and effective oversight to enhance the education sector and align it with global standards.

The Chairman, House Committee on Higher Education, Ali Lawan, gave the assurance during an oversight visit to the Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Arts and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wadan Dan Kade

Ali Lawan said the committee was determined to work with relevant stakeholders to address the challenges facing the institution.

He disclosed that the committee would invite the Commissioner for Higher Education and other key stakeholders to deliberate on the issues and develop lasting solutions.

The lawmaker noted that the committee’s previous oversight visit to the college had produced positive outcomes.

He urged the institution’s management to strengthen collaboration with the Chairman of Tudun Wada Local Government to achieve the desired objectives.

He further assured the management that the Kano State House of Assembly would provide the necessary legislative backing and support to ensure the growth and success of the college.

Earlier, the Provost of the college, Dr. Muntaka Dahiru, described the lawmakers’ visit as timely and encouraging, saying it had renewed hope for the institution’s development.

He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector highlighted the need for sustained legislative oversight to improve educational institutions across the state.

Dr Dahiru appealed to the lawmakers to expedite action on the proposed upgrade of the college to a technical college, while commending the Kano State Government for its commitment to revitalising the education sector.

The oversight visit was attended by members of the committee, including lawmakers representing Ungogo and Wudil constituencies, as well as the Committee Secretary, Muhammad Lawal.
