The Zamfara State Police Command has repelled armed bandits and recovered 329 cows, 175 sheep, and weapons during an operation in Gumi Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in collaboration with military personnel, carried out a tactical operation at Gambanda Forest at about 2:30 a.m.
According to the statement, the joint security team engaged a group of armed bandits in a fierce gun duel during the operation.
The superior firepower and coordinated response of the operatives forced the criminals to retreat into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries, effectively repelling the attack.
The statement explains that, the operation led to the recovery of 329 rustled cows, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle, and fifteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, praised their resilience and dedication to duty.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating banditry and restoring lasting peace across Zamfara State.
