The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) and Chairmen of the 44 Local Government Areas have adopted a six-point action plan aimed at improving Primary Health Care (PHC) service delivery, accountability, and health governance across the State.
The resolutions were reached at a two-day Bi-Annual Meeting themed, “Sustaining Effective Collaborative Relationship Between KSPHCMB and ALGON.”
The meeting focused on reviewing performance, strengthening accountability mechanisms, and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders to drive improved healthcare outcomes at the grassroots level.
Participants assessed progress made in PHC implementation, identified existing challenges, and developed practical strategies to address gaps in service delivery.
Speaking during the meeting, the Director-General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the Board and Local Government Councils in achieving better health outcomes.
Also addressing participants, Pharmacist Aminu Bashir, urged stakeholders to strengthen planning, accountability, and effective implementation of health programmes across the State.
Similarly, Aminu Sa’ad Aminu, who chairs the House Committee on Information, reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State House of Assembly to supporting policies and initiatives that enhance Primary Health Care services.
At the end of deliberations, participants adopted six key action points designed to strengthen healthcare governance and programme implementation across the 44 LGA’s.
These include the development and dissemination of a one-page summary of health indices for all LGAs, collection of feedback from council chairmen on their six-month health plans, and the re-orientation of Local Government Health Authority PHC Advisory Committees to improve functionality and align them with ongoing health sector reforms.
Other resolutions include the orientation of Heads of Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) to facilitate the inclusion of budget lines for additional health programmes, the use of budget books as implementation guides for approved health activities, and enhanced collaboration between the State Primary Health Care Management Board and the Ministry of Planning and Budget to establish Food and Nutrition Committees in all Local Government Areas.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by KSPHCMB, ALGON, LG Chairmen, the Kano House of Assembly, and development partners to deepen collaboration, strengthen accountability, and accelerate progress towards improved health outcomes for communities across Kano State.
