Jigawa State Government has organised a special national prayer session to seek divine intervention for lasting peace, improved security, and national unity in Nigeria.
The event, held at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI), Dutse, attracted thousands of Qur’anic reciters and Islamic scholars from across the country under the leadership of Umar Namadi.
Speaking during the gathering, Governor Namadi said the initiative was part of efforts to complement measures being implemented by governments at all levels to address insecurity and other national challenges facing the nation.
He said despite ongoing security operations and policy interventions by federal and state governments, there was also a need to seek divine intervention for sustainable peace and stability.
The governor explained that the programme was jointly organised by the Jigawa State Government, the National Centre for Qur’anic Reciters, and the Jigawa State Forum for Qur’anic Memorization.
According to him, participants from about 26 states attended the event, during which over 4,000 complete Qur’anic recitations were performed, alongside special prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and prosperity.
Governor Namadi noted that the prayer session coincided with the first ten days of Zul-Hijjah, regarded as a spiritually significant period in Islam, expressing optimism that the prayers would attract Allah’s mercy and blessings upon the country.
He added that the programme was also aimed at supporting the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in tackling insecurity, strengthening national cohesion, and promoting socio-economic development nationwide.
The governor commended the organisers, Islamic scholars, and participants for their commitment and sacrifice, describing the gathering as a demonstration of patriotism and collective concern for Nigeria’s future.
In a statement issued in Dutse by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the event featured Qur’anic recitations, supplications for peace and security, as well as special prayers for the nation’s leaders, armed forces, and citizens.
