The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed June 20, 2026, for the by-election into the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State following the death of the lawmaker representing the area.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Zango Abdu, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Kano, noting that the election became necessary after the Speaker of the House of Representatives declared the seat vacant in line with constitutional provisions.
He explained that the constituency comprises two local government areas, Dawakin Kudu and Warawa.
According to him, Warawa has 15 registration areas, 303 polling units, and 162,445 registered voters, while Dawakin Kudu has 15 registration areas, 143 polling units, and 75,623 registered voters.
Abdu said INEC had already carried out an assessment visit to both local governments and expressed satisfaction with their level of preparedness for the exercise.
He added that the commission would soon begin training ad hoc staff, with more than 2,000 personnel expected to be deployed for the by-election.
