Incumbent Senator Sunday Marshal Katung, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress primary election for Kaduna South Senatorial District, defeating former senator Danjuma Laah and Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta in Monday’s exercise conducted across the eight local government areas of the district.

 

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, announced the results at the collation centre at the Jema’a Local Government Secretariat, declaring the exercise peaceful, free and fair.

 

Laah said Katung polled a total of 7,513 votes to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the forthcoming general election.

 

According to the results, Katung secured 985 votes in Kagarko, 588 in Sanga, 1,348 in Kauru, 815 in Zangon Kataf, 1,029 in Kaura, 1,113 in Jema’a, 570 in Jaba and 1,005 in Kachia.

 

Laah came second with 1,370 votes, while Auta garnered 878 votes.

 

The returning officer commended party stakeholders, security agencies and delegates for ensuring a peaceful process across the senatorial district.

 

“With the successful conduct of this exercise, the party has once again demonstrated its commitment to democratic principles and peaceful participation,” he said.

 

The victory secures Katung the APC ticket to contest the Kaduna South Senatorial seat in the next general election.

 

Reacting to the outcome, Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area,

Amb. Engr. Bege Joseph Gaiya described the result as a true reflection of the wishes of the grassroots.

 

He said the conduct of the primary further demonstrated the strength of internal democracy within the APC.

 

“The conduct of the exercise and the eventual outcome demonstrated the strength of internal democracy within the party,” Gaiya said.

expressed confidence that the local government area would mobilise massive support for Katung, Governor and other APC candidates in the next general election.

 

He also urged aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders to unite in the interest of the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
