The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Waidi Shaibu has stressed the need to adapt to evolving threats through innovation and integration of modern defence technologies.

He stated this while declaring open, the Nigerian Army Combat Training Week 2026, held at the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.

Lt General Waidi Shaibu identified innovation, professionalism and strategic collaboration as panacea to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Represented by Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, the Army Chief tasked personnel to embrace both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches premised on sound doctrine and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

In his keynote address, Governor Uba Sani described the Nigerian Army as a reliable partner in tackling security challenges.

Represented by the Commissioner For Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Sule Shu’aibu, the Governor stressed the need for sustained collaboration between State security agencies to address emerging threats.

In his welcome address, Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut described the event as a vital platform for enhancing operational readiness and inter-corps co-operation.

According to him, the training week would also foster knowledge sharing, research and professional development among personnel.

Major General Mutkut expressed the hope that the event would produce actionable solutions to strengthen combat effectiveness.

The combat arms training week is an annual event held to review critical issues affecting combat arms and corps, while fostering collaboration towards enhancing operational effectiveness.

The theme of the event is: “Building Troops Resilience For Counter-Terrorism Campaigns”

The event had in attendance serving and retired officers from the Infantry and Armoured Corps.
