The Chairman Niger State Sports Commission NSSC, Comrade Danjuma Abdul Masu has approved the creation of Grassroot Sports Department to fastrack the discovery of young talents at the Grassroot levels for national and international events.
He stated this at the opening of a one day training on Sports Journalism as a tool for development, unity and social change by Sports Writers Association Of Nigeria (SWAN) Niger state chapter, in collaboration with the Badminton Federation of Nigeria held in Minna.
Represented by the Executive Secretary, Niger State Sports Commission, Baba Sheshi, the Chairman Danjuma Masu explained that approval for the creation of Grassroot Sports Department was targeted at expanding the Commission to bring sports nearer to the people to achieve the desired objective of getting them young at Grassroot level for maximum benefit.
In his remarks the Chairman Nexter Radio and Zonal Representation Badminton Federation of Nigeria, North Central, Mohammed Nma Kolo represented by Manager News Nexter Radio, Nma Maku, the Chairman Alh Nma Kolo assured SWAN members Niger State Chapter of his continued support at all times to succeed.

Chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Niger state, Comrade Alhassan Kutigi, said the aim of current SWAN Exco is to make the union more vibrant and result oriented by reviving sporting activities through an accountable and a transparent process and are not resting on their oars to achieve that, while assuring members of their resolve not to dis appoint them.
Chairman Niger State Council of NUJ Comrade Abu Nmodu, represented the Vice Chairman Comrade Uriah Gana, the Chairman commended SWAN for organizing the one day training and implored participants to put into practice what they have learnt for the overall development of the union.
Former North Central SWAN Zonal Secretary and Ex Officio, Comrade Abu Hassan, who reminded sports administrators in Niger state that sports is a Media event because without Media there will be no sports, also called on them to as a matter of urgency support members of SWAN to thrive.
Delivering paper with the theme From Headlines to nation building: Using Sports Journalism as a tool for development, unity and social change, Former SWAN Chairman and Sole Administrator in Niger state, Pastor Dan Amasigha said the role of Sports Journalists has expanded in the twenty first century, where sports is now being used as an instrument of social cohession and social change as well.
Pastor Dan Amasigha explained that it was also used as a tool for shaping public opinion, promote national value, stimulate economic growth, build global image and expose corruption among others.
