The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, has received a resource verification team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the assessment of the proposed Doctor of Physiotherapy programme.

The team, led by Christopher Olusanjo Akosile of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, is tasked with evaluating the availability and adequacy of both human and material resources, as well as determining the department’s readiness to commence the programme.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Musa welcomed the delegation and expressed satisfaction with the transition from the Bachelor’s degree to the Doctor of Physiotherapy.

He described the move as strategic in strengthening professional training and addressing critical gaps in healthcare delivery.

He further noted that the verification exercise, being a peer review process, would help identify areas for improvement, while reaffirming the university’s commitment to meeting all required standards.

The upgrade of the programme follows the introduction of the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), which mandates the transition from the Bachelor of Physiotherapy to the Doctor of Physiotherapy qualification across Nigerian universities.

Other members of the NUC team include Alhaji Umar Lapai, Deputy Director of Academic Planning at the Commission, and the panel secretary, Malam Nazifi Jamilu.
