The Government Secondary School Fadan Kaje Old Students Association (GOSSFAKOSA) has called for urgent government intervention to address the alarming state of infrastructural decay threatening academic activities at the institution.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the association’s executives to the Kaduna State Head of Service, Mrs. Jummai Bako.

Speaking during the visit, National President of the association, Mr. Steve Marcus Boman, described the school as one of the foremost first-generation institutions in Kaduna State, renowned for producing distinguished civil servants, politicians, and professionals across various fields.

He, however, lamented that the once-prestigious institution has deteriorated significantly, with students now forced to sleep in classrooms due to dilapidated and uninhabitable hostels. He further noted the absence of a perimeter fence, inadequate teaching staff, and declining student enrollment, all of which have contributed to the school’s current state.

According to him, the poor condition of facilities has discouraged parents from enrolling their children, leading to a sharp drop in student population. He stressed the need to restore the school to a fully functional co-educational day and boarding institution to revive its past glory.

Mr. Boman highlighted efforts by the old students’ association to support the school, including the provision of desktop computers, renovation of classrooms, and construction of toilet facilities and boreholes. Despite these interventions, he emphasized that the scale of decay requires substantial government support.

He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to partnering with the government, noting that members remain passionate about restoring the institution to acceptable standards.

Responding, the Head of Service, Mrs. Jummai Bako, commended the association for its dedication and proactive efforts toward improving the school’s condition. She acknowledged the challenges facing public schools and reiterated the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, boosting enrollment, and improving the quality of education.

Mrs. Bako, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Mallam Nasiru Banki, assured the delegation that the government would carefully assess the areas of need and provide necessary support where possible.

She also emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between government and stakeholders in rehabilitating schools and creating a conducive learning environment.

The visit underscored a shared commitment between the government and alumni to restore Government Secondary School Fadan Kaje to its former status as a center of academic excellence.
