The Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, has donated ten million naira and assorted food items to victims of recent bandit attacks in Kebbi State.

Sadiq-Yelwa announced the donation during a condolence visit to Shanga Local Government Area, where he sympathised with the government and people of the state over the incident.

The attacks affected Kawara, Binuwa, Kalkami, Dabe, Kasoshi, Kafar Giwa, and Sa Madubi communities in Shanga LGA, leaving many people dead and destroying properties worth millions of naira.

He described the attacks as catastrophic and condemnable, adding that the assailants aimed to disrupt peace and the livelihoods of innocent residents.

The Managing Director said the commission considered it necessary to provide immediate support to cushion the impact of the attacks on affected communities.

According to him, the items also included cooking oil, seasoning, detergents, soap, blankets and mats to be shared Among the victims to alleviate their suffering.

The MD also commended the government commitments under leadership of Governor Nasir Idris for its response to insecurity and expressed confidence that peace will be restored in the affected areas.

Responding, Governor Idris, represented by the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Garba Salisu-Takware, thanked N-HYPPADEC for the timely intervention and assured that the cash donation and relief materials would be distributed judiciously to the affected victims.

Salisu-Takware said the state government had already put measures in place to cater for displaced persons, while intensifying efforts to strengthen security across the state.

The Managing Director also visited the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, to condole with him over the incident.

The Emir commended the commission for its support and solidarity with the victims during this difficult time.
