Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the United Nations to accelerate the empowerment of women and youth across the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made this known while receiving a delegation from the United Nations led by its Assistant Secretary-General on Youth Affairs, Felipe Paullier, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Vice President identified financial inclusion, skills development, job creation, peace and security as key priority areas for the partnership.

He said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognises the critical role of young people as drivers of national development and transformation.

Senator Shettima stressed that the government remains committed to youth and women empowerment, noting that they represent the foundation upon which the nation’s future rests.

He added that efforts are ongoing to translate Nigeria’s growing youth population into productive outcomes that will boost economic growth and national stability.

The Vice President also proposed the establishment of institutional frameworks to strengthen collaboration with the United Nations and other partners in advancing empowerment initiatives.

Earlier, Dr Paullier described Nigeria as a vibrant nation with immense youthful potential, noting that young people are central to its developmental trajectory.

He explained that the United Nations is committed to supporting Nigeria through programmes focused on human rights, education, and skills development.

Dr. Paullier further stated that Nigeria’s role on the global stage makes it a key partner in advancing youth development initiatives.

He emphasised that sustained progress would depend on prioritising young people in decision-making processes, as well as promoting gender equality and access to employment and education.
