Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government chairmen over alleged accountability breaches, following deliberations at its plenary session held today.

The session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, focused on strengthening transparency in the management of public funds at the grassroots level.

The decision followed the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, delivered by the Deputy Speaker, Adamu Aliyu Gummi.

The report was part of an ongoing investigation into the financial activities of the 14 local government councils in the state for the 2025 fiscal year.

According to the committee, the affected chairmen are Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda and Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum local governments on allegations that they failed to honour invitations to appear before the lawmakers to explain how funds allocated to their councils were spent.

After deliberations, the House unanimously approved their suspension, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The two officials have been directed to hand over the affairs of their respective councils to their vice chairmen.

The Assembly said the action was necessary due to what it described as disrespect to the House and lack of transparency and accountability.
