Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has intensified efforts towards ensuring adequate power supply for the socio-economic development of the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi the state capital.

Zuru said since the assumption of office, the Governor has been engaging technical experts in electricity and put in huge resources aimed at improving the electricity supply with a view to achieving his ambitious industrialization agenda as he is currently in London, UK, attending an International Energy Summit.

He added that, the Summit with the Theme ” Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development” is being attended by senior government officials, energy experts, development partners, and private sector investors.

They are expected to deliberate on unlocking the vast investment potential within (KAEDCO) franchise with a focus on innovative strategies to strengthen power generation, transmission, and distribution with a view to addressing critical challenges affecting energy access in the region.

However, Parts of the highlight of the summit include discussion around the effective implementation of the 2023 Electricity Act, a landmark reform aimed at decentralizing the power sector.

Governor Nasir Idris’s presence at the international forum underscores his proactive approach to economic growth and his commitment to the energy sector reform as well as attracting investment for electricity infrastructure.

He is expected to engage, at a side room consultations with credible investors on improving electricity infrastructure, ensuring sustainable power supply with the capacity of supporting the industrialization of the state, blessed with abundant agricultural products and large deposits of solid minerals.

It could be recalled that Governor Idris has implemented a number of initiatives to improve the power supply which to include the recent procurement of a 15MVA transformer worth over N650 million, approving N150 million monthly support for KAEDCO, procuring 40 transformers with accessories worth N520 million and planning to procure additional 40 transformers.
