Newly sworn-in Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has pledged to prioritize the welfare of officers and strengthen law enforcement in service of the citizens.
Disu made the remarks in an interview with State House journalists shortly after his swearing-in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the Federal Executive Council meeting in the Presidential Villa Abuja.
He revealed that a committee was set up to examine the issue of state policing, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force seeks to play an active role in ensuring the initiative’s success.
“The police are not afraid our jobs are being taken; it is a matter of partnership,” he said.
On officer welfare, the new IGP highlighted its critical importance for motivation and effective service.
Recalling his tenure as Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Disu noted the challenges officers face, including long hours and personal sacrifices.
He commended the President’s commitment to addressing these needs.
Tunji Disu added that his focus will be on building a motivated, disciplined force that serves Nigerians efficiently and with integrity.
