Jigawa State government says it has approved the conduct of 2026 Ramadan Iftar feeding programme aimed at providing relief to vulnerable citizens and ensuring that residents across the state have access to nutritious meals during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The State Commissioner of environment and climate change, Dr Nura Ibrahim Kazaure made this known shortly after the state executive Council meeting held at government house, Dutse.
According to him, the approved arrangement has a total of 640 feeding centres to be established across the State.
He said, this includes two centres in each of the 287 political wards across the 27 local government areas, as well as designated centres in tertiary institutions, correctional facilities, and social welfare institutions to ensure inclusivity and wide coverage.
Dr Nura Ibrahim Kazaure pointed out that, the programme is expected to provide over 264,600 meal packages daily, benefiting an equal number of individuals each day.
*Over the course of the Holy Month, the initiative will deliver more than 23.8 million meals, reaching over 7.9 million beneficiaries statewide”.
Kazaure said, the feeding programme is designed to provide nutritious and quality meals to fasting Muslims and other vulnerable residents, support low-income households and individuals facing economic hardship.
He noted that, the programme will promote community solidarity, compassion, and shared responsibility; and complement ongoing social investment and poverty alleviation programmes of the state government.
Dr Kazaure however said, the council has also directed strict adherence to quality standards in the procurement, preparation, and distribution of meals.
The Commissioner added that, monitoring committees will be constituted at state, local government and ward levels to guarantee effective implementation and equitable distribution.
He urged on community leaders, religious institutions, youth groups, and civil society organizations to cooperate fully in ensuring the success of the programme and maintaining order at all feeding centres.
He added that, this humanitarian and social inclusion gesture also include the civil servant servants of the state who are the engine room of operationalizing all government policies across all sectors.
