The Zamfara State Government has constituted the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) State Governing Board as part of renewed efforts to strengthen coordination with the Scheme, improve the welfare of corps members, and enhance the overall impact of national service in the state.

Governor Dauda Lawal announced the development at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I NYSC Orientation Course, held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp in Gusau.

The governor was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Tasiu Musa Shinkafi said the constitution of the Governing Board reflects his administration’s firm commitment to youth development and sustained support for the NYSC Scheme in Zamfara State.

Dr Dauda Lawal also disclosed that, the process for the payment of the next tranche of state allowances has commenced, assuring that all corps members serving in Zamfara State ministries, departments and agencies will benefit.

“This is not just a financial gesture, but a recognition of your contribution and our appreciation for your service,” the governor said, adding that corps members who distinguish themselves through hard work, integrity and meaningful community impact will be recognized and honoured at the end of their service year.

Commending the discipline and teamwork displayed by the corps members during the orientation course, the governor Lawal noted that, the impressive parade mounted at the ceremony reflected their transformation and readiness for national service.

Dr Dauda Lawal urged the the corps members to carry the values of discipline, patriotism and unity into their places of primary assignment, describing them as important partners in the state’s ongoing recovery and development under the Rescue Agenda.

He assured the corps members that their welfare and security remain a top priority, pledging continued collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and NYSC management to ensure a safe and rewarding service year.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator in Zamfara, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmed, commended Governor Lawal for his consistent support for the Scheme.

Mallam Ahmed disclosed that the orientation course, which commenced on 21 January 2026, was successfully conducted without any negative incident.

He said corps members were exposed to paramilitary drills, leadership and citizenship education, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), health and security awareness, as well as lectures on the culture and traditions of Zamfara State.

The NYSC coordinator urged the corps members to remain law-abiding, security-conscious and dedicated as they proceed to their places of primary assignment, while assuring that NYSC management would continue periodic inspections to monitor their welfare and performance.

The ceremony was attended by government officials, security agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful conduct of the orientation course.
