President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after a successful working visit to the Republic of Türkiye, during which Nigeria and Türkiye agreed to deepen bilateral relations and pursue a $5 billion trade volume between both countries.

During the visit to Ankara, President Tinubu held bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who disclosed that trade volume between the two countries currently stands at about $2 billion, with both leaders agreeing to scale up trade, investment and economic cooperation.

To achieve this target, the two countries agreed to establish a Joint Economy and Trade Committee to expand Turkish investments in Nigeria.

At the end of the bilateral engagements, officials from both countries signed nine agreements covering defence cooperation, diaspora policy, education, media and communication, higher education, social development, halal quality infrastructure, diplomatic training, and the formal establishment of the Joint Economy and Trade Committee.

The working visit further strengthened diplomatic, economic and security ties between Nigeria and Türkiye, positioning both countries for expanded cooperation and mutual prosperity.
