Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the rehabilitation of three strategic dams—Dembo, Kuda, and Hayin Warde—at a total cost of over ten point billion naira.

The intervention, estimated at ₦10.88 billion, is aimed at expanding irrigation infrastructure to enable year-round agricultural production.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen after the council meeting by the commissioner for information, youth, sports and culture Sagir Musa Ahmed.

The statement said the project is expected to boost food security, create employment opportunities, and increase farmers’ incomes across the state.

The State Executive Council has also approved the award of a contract worth over two hundred and thirty million naira for the procurement of operational vehicles for the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.

The approval, valued at ₦230.6 million, covers the purchase of one brand-new 2024 Toyota Hilux and one foreign-used 2020 Toyota Hilux.

The vehicles are expected to support field operations, monitoring, supervision, and coordination of livestock development programmes across the state.

The commissioner said the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development reflects the commitment of the present administration to strengthening the livestock sector as a major driver of economic growth, food security, job creation, and rural development, in line with the 12-Point Development Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Council has also approved the supply of Pathway Organic Fertiliser at a cost of about ₦225 million.

The initiative is designed to promote climate-smart agriculture, improve soil health, support sustainable farming practices, and enhance environmental protection.
