Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has asked God to guide the 10th Senate to serve Nigeria with integrity and secure a better future worthy of their sacrifice and hope.

The Senate President made this known while welcoming back his colleagues this Tuesday from a recess to give time for 2026 budget defence exercise.

Akpabio urged lawmakers to continue to conduct their work with dignity, seriousness of purpose, and a patriotic devotion worthy of the trust placed in them by the Nigerian people.

He argued that the source of representation lies at the very heart of the democratic exercise, saying representation is not written only in constitution, rather it is a living agreement between the electorates and those whom they elect to speak in their favor.

The Senate President said in this age of communication, social media has expanded with astonishing speed and has been given a voice to millions of Nigerians, as such reminding themselves that while social media may raise an alarm, it is the institutions of democracy the National Assembly that must provide the remedy.

Akpabio stressed that the Senate is not merely a theatre of debate, it’s a workshop of solutions where social media magnifies the noise of the moment the senate addresses the substance of the problems.

“Let us debate with vigour, but act with wisdom. Let us differ in opinion, but remain united in our duty to the the federal Republic of Nigeria “.

Akpabio reminded Muslims that the lessons of Ramadan are not confined to the mosque alone, saying passion, humility, clarity, charity, and obedience to God are virtues that our nation desperately needs in public life and private conduct alike.

He assured that disciplined in spirit will always build a nation strong in character, at the same time, our Christian compatriots are also passing through the sacrifice season of Lent, a 40-day period of prayers, fasting and repentance, and spiritual preparation before the Easter season.

The President of the Senate, however, urged members of the red chamber to work together for the peace, unity and prosperity of our beloved country, Nigeria.

Akpabio, after reading some executive communications from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on confirmation of appointments and FCT budget proposal, the senate mourned Senator Npigi Branada’s death.
