Jigawa State Executive Council has approved over one point two billion naira for the general renovation of Jigawa Hotels Limited in Dutse.

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen after the council meeting by the commissioner for information, youth, sports and culture Sagir Musa Ahmed.

The amount, put at ₦1.221 billion, is for the award of contract to rehabilitate and upgrade the state-owned three-star hotel to meet modern hospitality standards.

The project is expected to improve service delivery, enhance guest comfort, and reposition the facility as a preferred destination for both local and international visitors.

The commissioner says the renovation will also boost tourism activities, increase internally generated revenue, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s hospitality and tourism value chain.

The statement further reiterated the Jigawa state governments commitment to strategic investments that promote economic diversification and project the state as a viable hub for tourism, conferences, and business engagements.

Similarly, the State Executive Council has approved the change of name of Khadijah University, Majia, to Jigawa State University of Medical and Applied Health Sciences, subject to approval by the National Universities Commission.

The decision follows the acquisition of the institution by the Jigawa State Government and is in line with efforts to expand access to higher education in medical and applied health sciences.

The move is aimed at providing opportunities for students to pursue careers in medicine, healthcare, and allied professions, while addressing manpower needs in the health sector.

The council says the renaming and planned development of the university will enhance its profile, attract qualified staff and students, and strengthen Jigawa State’s contribution to national healthcare development.

Sagir Musa assured stakeholders that all regulatory requirements will be fully observed, as the administration remains committed to providing the necessary resources and infrastructure for quality education.
