The Nigerian Union of Journalists-NUJ Kaduna State Council has conferred an Award for Exemplary Public Service and Excellence on the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Kaduna, Professor Aishatu Yusha’u Armiya’u, in recognition of her outstanding leadership and remarkable contributions to public and mental health service delivery.

The award was presented during the 2025 Annual Press Week of the NUJ Kaduna State Council held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Bafra Hotel and Suites, Ungwan Sarki.

The event was organised under the theme, Media and the Kaduna State Peace Model: Dialogue, Security and Development in the North.

Presenting the award, the NUJ Kaduna State Council described Professor Armiya’u as a distinguished public servant whose tenure as Medical Director has been characterised by excellence, professionalism, and a people centred approach to healthcare delivery.

The Council noted that her leadership has significantly strengthened public health services through improved mental health care delivery, community outreach, staff development, and sustained advocacy for mental health awareness.

According to the NUJ, the award for exemplary public service and excellence reflects Professor Armiya’u’s commitment to ethical leadership, accountability, and service to humanity, particularly in advancing mental health as a critical component of public health and social development.

In her response, Professor Aishatu Yusha’u Armiya’u expressed deep appreciation to the NUJ for the honour, describing the award as a motivation to sustain excellence in public service.

She emphasised the vital role of the media in shaping public understanding of health issues, promoting mental health literacy, and supporting policies that foster peace, security, and development.

The medical director dedicated the award to the management and staff of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Kaduna, acknowledging their dedication, teamwork, and professionalism in delivering compassionate mental health services to the public.

The NUJ Annual Press Week remains a strategic platform for dialogue on the role of the media in governance and development, while also recognising individuals and institutions that exemplify public service excellence.
