Federal Government has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to support the economic reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly ahead of the new tax policy scheduled to take effect in January 2026.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal while receiving an ICAN delegation led by its President, Malam Haruna Nma Yahaya, during a courtesy visit to the Radio House, Abuja.
Idris said President Tinubu’s administration Renewed Hope Agenda prioritises accurate public information, responsible governance, and comprehensive civic orientation.
He urged ICAN to leverage its professional platforms to champion public understanding of financial reforms.
“Reforms must not only work, but citizens must also clearly understand them,” he said.
The Minister stressed that collaboration with reputable professional bodies was vital for effective public communication and national development.
He highlighted that the administration’s reform programme is anchored on fiscal discipline, economic transformation, digitisation of government processes and transparent engagement with citizens.
Alhaji Idris Malagi also offered ICAN access to government communication channels, including state-owned media and national orientation platforms, to aid financial literacy initiatives, ethical leadership campaigns, and public enlightenment.
The Minister proposed further collaboration in areas such as research-driven policy communication, capacity building for civil servants, and simplifying complex economic matters for ordinary Nigerians.
ICAN President Yahaya commended the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and public trust.
He praised the revitalised national communication strategy and ongoing digital service reforms, describing public engagement as essential to the success of economic reforms.
Yahaya assured that ICAN would use its national platforms, including the ICAN on the Air programme, to simplify government reforms for citizens, promote financial literacy, and support ethical governance.
Idris reaffirmed that the Federal Government remains committed to working with professional bodies to advance reforms that are transparent, people-centred, and accountable.
