The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has expressed satisfaction with the Federal Government’s decision to ban the production and sale of alcoholic drinks in sachets and small bottles across the country.

In a statement the National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, says the ban ought to have taken effect since 2018, but was delayed to cushion the economic impact on manufacturers.

The statement commended the Senate for prioritising public safety, adding that the easy access of youths, commercial drivers and criminal elements to such alcoholic products has contributed to rising insecurity, and road accidents.

It urge NAFDAC and the NDLEA to ensure full enforcement of the ban to curb youth involvement in crime and protect travellers from intoxicated drivers, particularly during festive periods.

The statement appeal to the security agencies to clear drinking spots from motor parks to reduce avoidable accidents to the minimum.
