Zamfara Government Approves Recruitment of First Batch of 500 Teachers
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has approved the recruitment of the first batch of 500 qualified teachers into the State Civil Service as part of ongoing reforms to revitalize the education sector.
The approval follows the successful completion of a rigorous selection exercise conducted by the Zamfara State Committee for Teacher Recruitment and Deployment (TRD), established and mandated by the Governor to oversee the process in line with the existing Teacher Recruitment and Deployment Policy Guidelines (TRDPG).
In a statement by the Chairman, Zamfara State Civil Service/Commission Recruitment Committee Chairman, Aliyu Mohammed Tukur explained that a total of 11,708 candidates applied through the State’s online recruitment portal.
Aliyu Tukur noted that out of the figures, 8,184 applicants met the eligibility criteria and were screened, while 3,105 candidates participated in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) conducted under strict supervision.
He said based on the 40% benchmark, 1,033 candidates qualified for the final selection oral interview and after thorough evaluation by the subject panelists, 500 candidates were recommended for appointment as teachers across the State.
Aliyu Mohammed Tukur further revealed that, the recruitment targeted core teaching subjects, namely, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Studies/ICT, Entrepreneurship, Agricultural Science, Home Economics, and Animal Husbandry.
The recruitment committee also Commended the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and its parastatals for their steadfast dedication, coordination, and total commitment towards the successful execution of the teacher recruitment exercise.
The committee further emphasizes that the recruitment exercise stands as a major milestone in bridging the gap in qualified teaching personnel and improving the overall quality of education in public schools.
Malam Aliyu assured that, the newly recruited teachers will soon receive their appointment letters before deployment to schools across the State, with particular focus on n rural and underserved areas.
