The Federal Fire Service, in collaboration with the Kano State Police Command, has organized a one-day intensive training on fire safety and firefighting skills for 100 members of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) as part of activities marking the 2025 Fire Safety Week.

The training was led by the Kano State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Engineer Kazeem Oyefola Sholadoye, alongside other personnel from the command.

The exercise aimed to equip participants with basic knowledge on fire prevention, response techniques, and the use of firefighting equipment — a move described as timely given the increasing number of fire incidents recorded in Kano State over the past two years.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Police Officers Wives Association, Kano Chapter, Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim Bakori, emphasized the vital role of women in ensuring household and community safety.

“As wives, mothers, and homemakers, we play a fundamental role in the safety of our families and the environment we live in. Knowing how to prevent fire, react during emergencies, and use firefighting equipment is crucial to safeguarding lives and properties. What we learn here today, we will take home to educate our families and communities.”

Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the Federal Fire Service for its commitment to fire prevention and awareness campaigns.

He noted that the initiative demonstrates a strong partnership between the Police and Fire Service in promoting public safety.

CP Bakori lauded the innovative leadership of the State Controller and urged the POWA members to apply the knowledge gained to improve fire safety consciousness within their homes and communities.

He assured that the Police Command would continue to collaborate with the Fire Service to enhance fire prevention and emergency response in the state.

The 2025 Fire Safety Week in Kano continues with a series of sensitization programs and community outreach campaigns,  aimed at reducing fire-related incidents and strengthening public awareness on safety practices across the state.
