Kano State government has empowered 400 women survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) through a comprehensive skills development to foster healing, resilience, and economic independence.
The initiative through the Kano state Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and People with Special Needs aims at rehabilitating GBV survivors.
In her opening remarks, the Kano state Commissioner of Women Affairs Ambassador Hajiya Amina Sani Abdullahi, described the beneficiaries as symbols of courage, resilience, and strength in the face of unimaginable trials.
She highlighted several of the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives, including the establishment of referral centres, provision of legal and psychosocial support, economic empowerment programmes, and community sensitization campaigns aimed at preventing abuse and supporting survivors.
The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to tackling SGBV through a holistic approach centered on prevention, protection, justice, and empowerment
A practical financial literacy session facilitated by Hajiya Nafisa Muhammad Yakasai provided participants with hands-on guidance on managing startup capital and leveraging digital trade platforms, women’s cooperatives, and local markets for sustainable livelihoods.

Prominent islamic scholars Malama Hadiza (DCG Hisbah Board), Aisha Isma’il (Bayero University, Kano), and Malama Fathiyya Sufiyan Labbo delivered spiritual reflections, urging the women to draw strength from faith, patience, and perseverance.
Development partners, including ROLAC, DRPC, AECF, CDC, and UNICEF, pledged continued support to the Ministry’s mission to protect the rights and dignity of women, children, and people with special needs.
