The bill, titled “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Kaduna State Commission for Religious Affairs 2025,” was passed after its third reading during plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Henry Magaji, who announced its passage.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker explained that the establishment of the commission is aimed at promoting religious tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence among the diverse faith communities in Kaduna State.

Presenting the report on the bill, the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Interfaith and Judiciary, Malam Naziru Sunusi Abubakar, said the commission will serve as a unifying platform for all religious groups in the state to foster understanding and mutual respect.

Hon. Naziru Sanusi Abubakar (Kawo Constituency)

He noted that the commission would play a vital role in reducing religious tension and preventing conflicts by encouraging dialogue and peaceful engagement among followers of different faiths.

Malam Abubakar further disclosed that before the bill was transmitted to the House, Governor Uba Sani had constituted a committee comprising respected scholars and representatives from both major religions to develop modalities for establishing the commission.

According to him, the new commission will serve as a bridge between the government and religious bodies, helping to regulate their activities and ensure that they operate within the framework of the law.

The bill was unanimously adopted by all members of the Assembly and will be transmitted to the executive for the governor’s assent.
