The Jigawa State House of Assembly has reaffirmed that the directive mandating all health facilities in the state to procure drugs and medical consumables from the Jigawa Pharmaceutical Company remains in full force.

Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, stated this during an oversight visit to the organization in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

The Chairman explained that, the measure would ensure the provision of quality and curtail the spread of expired and fake drugs.

He pointed out that, the state executive council recently mandated the organization to commence production.

According to him, the production include essential drugs for supply to health facilities in the state and beyond.

Usman Musari urged the management to further combine drug production with nutritional food for supply to northern states for improved revenue generation.

In his remarks, the Regional Manager Jigawa pharmaceutical firm, Pharmacist Sa’id Musa explained that health facilities across the state currently comply with the directive to procure drugs and medical consumables from the regional offices.

He, however, pointed out that the firm is yet to be backed by law to engage in drug production while undercapitalization is currently impacting negatively on supply as a result of increased demand.
