Kano State House of Assembly has passed the second reading of the Kano Geographical Information Service (KANGIS) Bill 2025.

The Executive bill was read by the Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

Presenting the bill, the Majority Leader explained that KANGIS currently operates as a unit under the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, hence the need for legislation to strengthen its functions and establish it as an entity headed by a Managing Director.

He further stated that the law would empower KANGIS to maintain a comprehensive record of land plots and houses across Kano, and distinguish between residential and commercial properties.

“It will also facilitate the introduction of Systematic Land Titling and Registration (SLTR), a more flexible system compared to the existing Certificate of Occupancy (C of O)”

After careful deliberations, lawmakers unanimously adopted the bill for second reading.

In another development, the Assembly adopted a motion by the member representing Makoda Constituency, Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad, urging the state government to rehabilitate the Tomas Water Treatment Plant in Makoda Local Government.

According to him, the project would alleviate water scarcity affecting Makoda and neighbouring local government areas,  including Minjibir and Dambatta.

The House also approved a motion for the construction of a road linking Dawakin Tofa and Bichi LGAs.

The motion, sponsored by Saleh Ahmed Marke (Dawakin Tofa) and Lawan Bichi (Bichi), highlighted the deplorable condition of the Gulbi–Anguwar Rimi–road, which has become a nightmare for motorists.

Similarly, the lawmakers adopted another motion seeking the construction of a road from Shanono Yar Ceci to Faruruwa.

The sponsors argued that the road’s poor condition has claimed many lives, hindered farming and trading activities, and caused hardships for residents.
