Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has led a delegation to the Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar, Senegal, where he held a strategic meeting with the Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn.
The discussions focused on forging partnerships to accelerate agricultural transformation in Jigawa State.
Key areas highlighted included boosting productivity, improving market access, and strengthening the competitiveness of rice and wheat farmers.
Other issues discussed were aligning policies and governance practices to drive sustainable agricultural growth and adopting peer-to-peer knowledge-sharing platforms to empower smallholder farmers.
Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging global partnerships to enhance food security, modernize farming practices, and drive inclusive economic growth.
He noted that agriculture is central to his 12-Point Agenda for building a Greater Jigawa.
The Governor further stated that Jigawa remains Nigeria’s leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus flower, pledging to build on current initiatives to harness the state’s vast arable land and resilient farming population.

The Africa Food Systems Summit, which runs from September 1st to 4th, has attracted policymakers, researchers, and development partners from across the continent.
Governor Namadi was accompanied by key state officials, including the Commissioners for Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency, and the Director-General of Invest Jigawa.
The Jigawa delegation is expected to use the summit to strengthen partnerships that will advance agricultural innovation and growth in the state.
