Kaduna State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a reported political gathering allegedly orchestrated by former governor Nasir El-Rufai, which reportedly led to violence and a shooting incident involving suspected political thugs.

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the meeting—allegedly held under the guise of a coalition linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) without prior notification to the police or other relevant security agencies.

Preliminary investigations, according to the statement reveals that the unauthorized political meeting escalated into a clash involving suspected thugs and political gangsters allegedly loyal to the former governor.

According to it, Gunshots were reportedly fired during the fracas, creating panic and disrupting public peace in parts of the state.

Police sources said the incident occurred amid the visit of several high-profile dignitaries to the state, further compounding security concerns.

The ADC, in a statement obtained by police investigators, disassociated itself from the meeting.

Party officials reportedly denied any knowledge of the gathering and reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law, distancing themselves from any alleged involvement of Mr. El-Rufai or the organizers.

“The Command wishes to state categorically that the investigation is ongoing, and anyone found culpable—regardless of status or political affiliation—will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

The Command also issued a strong warning to hotels, event centres, and other venues across the state, cautioning them against permitting political meetings or gatherings without formal notification to the police.

“This measure is to ensure due process is followed and to prevent thugs or miscreants from hijacking such gatherings to cause mayhem or a breakdown of law and order,” the statement added.

In the interest of public safety, the police command has also directed an immediate suspension of all unauthorized political gatherings until proper security arrangements and official approvals are in place.

The Kaduna State Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations continue.
